A fair working day

A review of all the operational workings of one of the country's largest District Nursing services. The work visited every base in the city observing good and not so good practice. This covered all the operational processes in the base from allocation, handovers, meetings, communication etc. This on the ground domain knowledge was supported by the detailed analysis of 1,300,000 patient contacts and 670,000 mileage journeys during in one year. The 75 recommendations included answering the questions "What is a fair working day for a district Nurse?", "Is there a disparity of workload across the city?", "Why are the staff feeling the pressure if the caseload numbers have not changed?". In additional it provided new tools to understand the difference between caseload/workload and monitor them on an ongoing basis.
